Minister for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton TD, has rejected ULA claims that the Stability Treaty will lead to unemployment. Rejecting the outrageous claims the Minister said that the policies advocated by the United Left Alliance would condemn Ireland to a continuous debt spiral.
“At their photo stunt today the ULA resorted to yet more scare tactics when they claimed that the Stability Treaty would lead to unemployment. The fact is that companies and businesses across this country are in favour of this Treaty. Those who create jobs, rather than those who talk about it, know that a Yes vote will guarantee the stability and investor confidence Ireland needs to continue on the correct economic path.
“The ULA contend that €1 billion of Government investment can create 10,000 jobs. Our FDI sector is worth €110 billion in exports and directly employs 145,000 people.
“Inward investment into this country accounts for over 1,000 overseas companies which translates into 70% of total exports and €2.8 billion in corporation tax receipts. These companies spend €16 billion per year on goods, services and wages in Ireland.
“A Yes vote will keep us in the Eurozone mainstream – this Treaty is quite simply about stability, recovery and confidence in Ireland.”
